Extended story
Weld porosity that only the night shift saw
An automotive stampings plant in Samut Prakan booked a Plant Quality Walkthrough after scrap meetings kept circling the same porosity cluster. Day-shift charts looked acceptable. Night-shift scrap bins told another story.
On the second day we walked the weld stations with both supervisors, comparing torch change logs to the porosity tallies. The night crew had been compensating for a cooler fixture without writing it on the handoff sheet. The findings list asked for one fixture temperature check at changeover and a three-line handoff naming any torch swap.
Three weeks later the plant still owned its work instructions — as Somsak noted — but the scrap argument between shifts had narrowed to a single station instead of a vague “quality problem.”
