A wall of control charts impresses visitors and confuses the people who run the shift. Supervisors glance at what sits at eye level near the decision they already make.
Choose charts for characteristics that stop the line when they drift: critical dimensions, torque windows, or fill weights. Leave less critical measures in the quality office binder.
Print the chart large enough to read from two meters away. Update it at the same cadence as the sampling plan. A chart updated once a week cannot guide a Tuesday afternoon adjustment.
Teach one rule of thumb: if points hug a limit or show a clear run, call the quality lead before the next full pallet ships. Do not expect every supervisor to recite Western Electric rules from memory.
Retire charts that nobody has marked in a month. Empty ritual charts teach supervisors that quality paperwork is theater.
